Cribline Summer Spanish Travel Series: Pinxtos and Palaces
We hope you all are enjoying your summer. We here at the Cribline have had an adventure of a lifetime.
What started out as a five day trip to one city in Spain turned into a five week tour around the country. Our experiences included tasting some of the best tapas/pinxtos, making new friends, reuniting with old friends, lounging on picturesque beaches, walking through wonderful museums, touring mind-blowing churches, and staying in top of the line hotels including a renovated palace-turned-boutique hotel where we were the first guests and had the entire place to ourselves.
Over the next few weeks, in addition to our regular blog posts, we will share with you some of these experiences and feature great spots to dine, sun, absorb the culture- and of course, rest.
What can we say about Spain. There are so many influences from its sunny Mediterranean coast to the rainy Basque region on the Atlantic Ocean and the cultural epicenter Madrid and nearby Segovia. And, we had 5 weeks to soak in some of it’s magic and rich history.
Our main stops included Barcelona, Sitges, Madrid, San Sebastian, Seville, and the Balearic Islands – Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca.
During our travels we met many Spaniard’s and other Europeans who talked about the differences in our cultures and particularly with regard to our travel habits. We often heard: “American’s live to work” and “Europeans work to live.” We had a unique opportunity to “live” as the Europeans do during our extended stay.
Our Spanish series is intended to open up some windows into this amazing country and to share with you some of our experiences that will hopefully inspire, stir memories and perhaps generate some new dreams.
We will share with you pictures, and recommend places to stay and eat based on our experience and recommendations by others. We will also provide some cultural must-sees including churches, parks, palaces, and museums.
Stay tuned as we are composing our series now having just returned to our home in Washington.
